1944 memo describing the WWII accomplishments of the U.S. Coast Guard Cryptanalytic Unit (a.k.a. Unit 387), which was founded in 1931 by Elizebeth Smith Friedman. The unit solved the clandestine radio messages of Nazi spies during the war, breaking the codes on dozens of clandestine circuits and providing raw decrypts to Allied intelligence and law enforcement agencies, including the FBI. The memo's author is Lt. Leonard T. Jones, who commanded the unit after it was absorbed by the U.S. Navy in 1941.
